Pharmacy Technician-Astoria, NY (temporary/temp-hire)
Pharmacy Technician will be under the direct supervision of a pharmacist working within certified non-hazardous and hazardous clean rooms, performs the aseptic and sterile compounding of medication preparation, record keeping and inventory control. The Pharmacy Technician tasks are subject to be adjusted according to schedule needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding under supervision of a pharmacist.
-Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
-Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within USP 797/800 guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
-Proficient in regulatory USP 797/800 guidelines
- Must be diligent in record keeping of drug compounding and waste records
-Must be familiar with adherence to storage and disposal of waste
-Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
- Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
-Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
-Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all non-hazardous and hazardous drugs.
-Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
-Provide support with inventory control of medications.
-Basic data entry into CPR + software.
-Assists with ordering of medication and supplies.
-Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the cleanroom and anteroom area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
- Provides coverage in areas of need in the pharmacy operation
- Performs other duties as assigned
-High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be CPhT certified by PTCB
-Knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations
-Knowledge of hazardous drugs
- Ability to work in a self-directed work team environment and function effectively in a high-volume, multiple demand environments.
- Candidates should have customer services experience, be detail oriented, organized and dedicated to helping people.
REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM Two - five (2 - 5) years of previous IV and Chemo pharmacy technician experience
