Job Description

PsychPros is seeking a progressive Prevention Specialist for the coordination of activities within Tillamook County that promote the reduction of risk factors and the increase in protective factors associated with substance abuse, addictions, suicide and problem gambling. The Prevention and Promotion Services are to be implemented through one or more of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention’ s (CSAP) six (6) strategies:
  • Information Dissemination
  • Prevention Education
  • Alcohol, Tobacco, & Other Drugs (ATOD) Free Alternatives
  • Community based processes
  • Environmental/Social Policy
  • Problem Identification and Referral

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement the Tillamook County Prevention Plan as developed each biennium. Utilize local data resources such as Oregon Healthy Teen Survey, Oregon Student Wellness Survey, Public Health, and Columbia Pacific CCO.
  • Utilize up to date and current prevention service practices to support the work of advisory committees and community leadership
  • Participate, facilitate and coordinate community task forces and coalitions related to key prevention strategies
  • Disseminate information within the community aimed at reducing access to ATOD and reducing risk factors related to addictions
  • Collaborates with schools and other community agencies to advocate for policies and laws related to prevention
  • Supports and/or implements the use of fidelity driven parenting education curricula supporting skill building strategies that target youth/families
  • Identify prevention service gaps and seeks additional program funds through targeted grant writing
  • Completes monthly submission of all program data required by OHA/Public Health Division, utilizing the Oregon Prevention Data System (OPDS)
  • Attend relevant professional trainings and maintain Prevention Specialist Certification


This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are variable, but generally are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This job may require longer hours.


Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor' s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, or a related field
  • 2 years of experience working in a youth-serving and/or prevention focused setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community health resources
  • Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS)

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bilingual – Spanish

  • Organization skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Computer skills and Microsoft Office
