Job Description

A nonprofit therapeutic residential treatment program in central-eastern Vermont is seeking an experienced Clinical Director to provide clinical leadership for its adult behavioral health programs. This organization specializes in serving adults with persistent psychiatric illnesses through trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care.

Position Summary
The Clinical Director provides senior-level clinical, operational, and administrative leadership across residential behavioral health programs. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality clinical services, regulatory compliance, staff development, and continuous program improvement while collaborating closely with executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
  • Provide individual and group therapy as needed.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning.
  • Monitor client progress and oversee clinical interventions within the residential setting.
  • Provide crisis intervention and oversee risk management practices.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation.
  • Coordinate referrals, discharge planning, and transitions of care.
  • Participate in admissions reviews and referral consultations.
Clinical Supervision & Program Oversight
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and mentorship to clinical staff.
  • Ensure documentation quality and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Conduct chart audits and oversee clinical quality assurance.
  • Manage clinician caseloads and staffing coverage.
  • Lead clinical team meetings and collaborate with residential leadership.
  • Coordinate crisis response and clinical decision-making.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate clinical staff.
  • Develop and enhance clinical policies, procedures, and outcome measures.
Organizational Leadership
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning and program development.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with referral sources and community partners.
  • Participate in organizational leadership meetings and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Active independent Vermont clinical license (LICSW or LCMHC) with the ability to supervise.
  • Minimum of three years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Previous leadership experience within behavioral health, residential treatment, or a similar clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, clinical supervision, and behavioral health best practices.
