Physical Health Medical Director (Remote/Hybrid)
North Carolina (Remote with Occasional On-Site Meetings)

This position is primarily remote, with occasional on-site attendance as needed. Candidates residing in North Carolina or willing to relocate are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
As the Physical Health Medical Director, you will provide clinical leadership and oversight for utilization management and medical review activities by:
  • Reviewing and authorizing physical health services using evidence-based medical necessity criteria
  • Determining appropriate levels of care for inpatient and outpatient services
  • Conducting utilization reviews, appeals, concurrent reviews, and case evaluations
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards
  • Participating in Clinical Quality Review, Transition of Care, Overturn Committee, and other interdisciplinary meetings
  • Providing medical consultation and guidance to care management, clinical operations, and behavioral health teams
  • Supporting mediation activities and Office of Administrative Hearing (OAH) proceedings when needed
  • Identifying opportunities to improve clinical quality, operational efficiency, and member outcomes
  • Mentoring Medical Directors and supporting onboarding of new physician leaders
  • Promoting a positive, collaborative, diverse, and inclusive workplace culture

Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Current, unrestricted North Carolina medical license, or eligibility to obtain one
  • Minimum of four (4) years of clinical practice experience
  • At least two (2) years of managed care and utilization management experience
Preferred Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of utilization management and medical necessity review
  • Strong understanding of managed care principles
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, care managers, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
